Patients with complex coronary heart disease and chronic occlusion of coronary arteries pose a particular challenge to interventional cardiology. The reopening of chronically occluded coronary arteries is one of the most difficult and risky interventional procedures. In order to minimize the peri-interventional risk of circulatory shock, particularly in patients with a weakened heart muscle, an axial pump (Impella) can be temporarily inserted via the inguinal vessels to relieve the left ventricle. Successful recanalization of chronic occlusions of the coronary arteries can significantly improve the quality of life of patients with severe coronary heart disease in particular.
Our Protected PCI registry includes all patients who have been treated with the “Impella” left ventricular assist device as part of coronary interventions at our center since 2023.
As part of retrospective analyses, we have examined the outcome of patients after 4-8 months as well as peri- and post-interventional complications in addition to data on procedures. The data collected includes echocardiographic parameters, laboratory values and lists of implanted coronary stents.
